Old Testament Foundations: Moses and the Modern Mind (Israel in Egypt)

This fall we will examine the events leading up to the Exodus. We will consider as well the principles and promises of God upon which the nation of Israel was founded and through which the Gospel is proclaimed to the whole world.

The books of Moses are foundational to a true understanding of God's will and work in the world. In the course of our study we will face many contemporary issues that challenge the modern mind. We will address many of those profound questions asked by believers over centuries. Our ultimate goal is to tap the spiritual resources of Moses' words and understand his overarching message. Our prayer is that God will both engage our modern minds and anchor our eternal hopes in Him.

This class will be a survey of the history of the Christian Church from its roots in Judaism to the present day. We will track its major doctrinal developments and identify the more critical junctures in the development of our civilization under the influence of the Church. Beginning with the fall of the ancient world we will move through the Middle Ages up to the Reformation, and reach beyond to the rise of the modern world and those tensions existing between democratic secularism and the political, social and cultural traditions supporting the ethical and spiritual foundations of Western Civilization. We will also address the rise and revitalization of the Islamic world and the interaction of the third world with the West. Tighten your seat belts, its going to be a bumpy ride.
