Children's Ministry
Volunteer Opportunities
Four Oaks Children’s Ministries provide several volunteer opportunities, in which middle schoolers through adults can use their spiritual gifts to build up the body of Christ
Nursery
Purpose: The purpose of Four Oaks’ nursery is to not only meet the physical and emotional needs of the infants and toddlers through childcare, but also to begin nurturing the faith of the next generation so that they will honor Christ above all. We not only want to provide a place of love, comfort, and protection, but also a place of prayer, worship, and teaching for young children. Therefore, we desire to provide consistent care by having the same team of nursery workers serve each Sunday.
Teams: Our nursery workers provide childcare during the first or second worship service by serving on one of three teams:
1. School Year Team (each Sunday, September-May)
2. Summer Team (every other Sunday, June-August)
3. Substitute Team (serve as needed)
Requirements: Nursery workers must be at least high school age. In addition, nursery workers serving on the school year or summer team must be members/pursuing membership at Four Oaks, be interviewed and trained by the nursery coordinator and/or children’s pastor, and complete a national criminal background check. Nursery workers on the school year or summer team are expected to serve each Sunday they are available.
Contact: Contact or , our Nursery Coordinators, for more information.
Sunday School
Purpose: The purpose of our Sunday School is to equip our children in preschool and elementary school with an understanding of the truths of God’s Word, the grace of the Gospel, and the character of God, so that they might worship the Lord with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength.
Teams: Our Sunday School workers volunteer during the first or second worship service by serving on one of three teams:
1. School Year Team (each Sunday, September-May)
2. Summer Team (every other Sunday, June-August)
3. Substitute Team (serve as needed).
Roles: There are several roles one can fill in Preschool or Elementary:
1. Lead teacher - serves as the primary instructor to the children and also provides mentoring to the helpers under his/her care.
2. Small Group Leader - assists the lead teacher in teaching and nurturing the children and leads a small group of children each week in prayer and application of the lesson.
3. Worship Leader - leads children in singing, scripture memory, and hearing a mission story.
4. Puppet/Puppet Leader - writes and/or acts out a puppet skit that helps explain and apply the weekly lesson and/or memory verse.
Requirements: Sunday School workers must be at least middle school age. In addition, workers serving on the school year or summer team must be members/pursuing membership at Four Oaks, be interviewed and trained by the children’s pastor and/or assistant director, and complete a national criminal background check. Good News Club
Purpose: The purpose of our Good News Club at Desoto Trail Elementary School is to teach children the good news of Jesus Christ through Bible lessons, mission stories, songs, games, Scripture memory, and prayer. We trust that God will use this club to raise up a new generation of worshipers who are passionate about the Lord and desire to see His name proclaimed among the nations.
Teams: There are four ways you can partner with the Good News Club:
1. Volunteer team - serves each Wednesday (can be bi-weekly or monthly) during the school year. Volunteers teach children the good news of Jesus Christ through Bible lessons, missions stories, songs, games, Scripture memory, and prayer.
2. Prayer Team - receives periodic updates and prayer requests for the club to pray for the club.
3. Child Sponsorship Team - sponsors a child by praying for him/her each week and anonymously giving money to buy him/her a Bible or devotional book at Christmas. Sponsors receive periodic updates and prayer requests on the child (the child’s name is not shared with the sponsor) who is being sponsored.
4. Financial Team - contributes financially to pay for supplies and prizes. Children are awarded a prize for memorizing memory verses and completing devotional sheets. To financially contribute to the Good News Club, please make the checks out to Four Oaks and put Good News Club in the memo line.
Requirements: All volunteers must complete an application with Child Evangelism Fellowship, including a criminal background check, reference check, personal interview, and training. The next training is October 6, 2007.
