Why Membership?

At Four Oaks we ask that those who desire to commit themselves to the life, worship, and ministry of our church to do so through the vehicle of church membership. We believe that whole-heartedly and without reservation committing oneself to the local church is crucial and in full accord with the New Testament's teaching on the nature of the church.

By becoming a member of this local body, the pastors, elders and covenant members can better serve and minister to you and your family. It is our desire to see our members continue to grow and mature in grace as they are taught and served by the ministry teams at Four Oaks. Those who seek to officially join our body are not just given a vote. They are given a charge to actively serve and commit themselves to the life of the body. This can be seen in five areas of commitment:

For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.
Romans 12:4-5 ESV

The Five Areas of Commitment

  • Submitting to and supporting the leadership of the pastors and elders
  • Engaging in weekly corporate worship
  • Serving actively in a ministry
  • Participating in a Fellowship Group
  • Tithing and giving generously to the financial needs of Four Oaks.

The Desire to Commit

Completing our Welcome to the Family Membership Class (offered four times each year as a six-week Sunday morning class) is the first step in becoming a member. Click here to Register. During this time, you will have the opportunity to meet our pastors and elders, learn about our doctrinal positions and Statement of Faith, find out more about Four Oaks and our ministry distinctives, ask questions, and meet other folks in our Body. If you wish to pursue membership after attending this class, you will fill out a Member Information Sheet and turn it in to the church office. We will then schedule an opportunity for you to meet with a pastor or elder. You will be asked to share your testimony of faith in Christ, talk about the gospel, and then be given the opportunity to ask questions about the church. The pastor or elder presiding in the interview then makes a recommendation to the council of elders, who then votes and receives people into membership. There is the opportunity soon after to be presented to the church body as a new member of the Four Oaks family!
