Becoming a Foster Student

What we are about

Dear Four Oaks College Student:

It’s a challenge under the best of circumstances for college students to get “plugged-in” to a local church while in college, particularly for those students who are from areas outside Tallahassee. As you consider ways in which to become connected to the larger body of believers here at Four Oaks, we hope that you will submit your name to take part in our Foster Student Program.

The Foster Student Program is designed as a way of matching up Four Oaks families with Four Oaks college students for the purpose of helping students connect with those outside their age group and assimilate more easily into the Body life of Four Oaks Church. Your Foster Family will take a proactive role in getting to know you, doing such things as inviting you to their home for dinner and initiating ways for you to get to know their family. I think that you will find this a great source of encouragement in your spiritual walk as you navigate your college life for the next few years.

If you are interested in getting to know one of our Four Oaks families in a deeper and more personal way, please let us know! Complete and submit your application information through our college website. A “Meet your Family/Student Cookout” is planned for Sunday, October 7 after the 2nd service, at the home of the Cales, 6723 Treasure Oaks Circle. Maps are available at the College Table in the lobby.

We hope that this program will be an encouragement to you during your stay at our church!

In Him,
Ryan Oelschlager,
Pastor of Student Ministries

A Foster Student Welcome from the Cales!

If you are interested in being part of Four Oaks during your college years in Tallahassee, we have a special opportunity for you.

There are a number of families in our church body who have made a commitment to become an “adopted family” to students who are away from home. This means that they will invite you into their home for meals a couple of times per month (FREE FOOD!), and make an effort to include you in their family activities from time to time. Their home may become the “haven” for food, fellowship and laundry (FREE LAUNDRY) that you need to keep you grounded as you suddenly find yourself in a new place with more strangers than familiar faces!

Many of these “foster family” relationships have become long-term friendships (NEW FRIENDS) resulting in graduation parties, wedding showers, and a place to stay when you are off to a new life, but want to come back to Tallahassee for a visit!

It is our desire that while you are here you will plug in to the life of Four Oaks. We try to match students with families who share interests, such as someone working in a career similar to your major, or families who share your hobbies. (FREE FUN!) We have students who have joined a family in teaching Sunday School, or working with the homeless. As you become a part of our family, even for this season, we pray that you will find life, strength and joy in the give and take of joining us in our attempts to grow and seek God in our daily lives!

If you would like to be matched with a family, please fill out the on-line form for Foster Students. Foster Families will get to meet their students at the First Sunday Lunch at the Cales on October 12.

Maps to this monthly event are available at the web site or at the college table on Sundays.
