We’re going back to Oaxaca, Mexico!

Are you interested in going on a short-term mission trip to Oaxaca, Mexico from July 14-23, 2009?  Below is some information to help you become more acquainted with this great opportunity to be trained and taught and partner in the gospel with a missions base seeking to reach the Mixtec people for Christ.

Why are we going to Oaxaca?

This is our fifth trip to Oaxaca, Mexico (3rd time with a large group) to partner with Global Frontier Missions and the local churches (specifically Iglesia de Pompanos led by Pastor Chucho) in the trading town of Tlaxiaco.  GFM is a Christian missions organization focused on reaching the unreached Mixtec people groups of Oaxaca, Mexico, while mobilizing others to plant churches and proclaim the gospel to the unreached worldwide.  We have enjoyed an incredible relationship with the GFM staff and Pastor Chucho and want to support the work they are doing in fulfilling the Great Commission.

What are the purposes of this trip?

Teaching: GFM seeks to mobilize each team to greater missions involvement by teaching about God’s heart for all nations, by giving statistics and profiles and sharing about the need for mission work, and by sharing testimonies of people all around the world. GFM does not just talk about Oaxaca, but instead casts a greater vision and burden for the entire world, beginning with the unreached.

Training: GFM trains each team by providing the tools and preparation needed to be effective in ministry. This includes thorough cultural orientation, basic Spanish, and preparation for our specific areas of ministry.  The training is not only valuable for ministry in Oaxaca, but much of it can be adapted to cross-cultural ministry all around the world.

Outreach:  Each team will come alongside the full-time missionaries in reaching out to the Upper Mixtec region of Oaxaca. There are many different ways to reach out to the local people, and GFM always tries to do what will be most effective in ministering to them and meeting their needs.  Typical outreaches include kids’ public health programs, well drilling, water filtration projects, and English camps.

When is the trip?

The dates for the trip are July 14-23 (10 days, Tues-Thur), and we will fly round-trip from Tallahassee.

What is the cost of the trip?

We expect that it will cost about $1600 for each person, though this cost will vary some depending upon your need for a passport, immunizations, and other trip-related expenses (such as postage for support letters, gifts for supporters, and meals in airport).  The set costs are the flight (around $900) and our fee to GFM ($450), which includes all in-country expenses.  In order to pay for the trip, we will have team fund raisers, as well as encourage team members to work (i.e., Paul as a tentmaker) and seek financial support from family and friends. Please note that we raise our support as a team, so some people who raise a little more money can support those who raise a little less money.

Who can go?

The trip is open to any Four Oaks member, as well as any high schooler involved in BOB (the Student Ministries leadership team has chosen this trip to serve as its summer mission).

How do I sign up?

To sign up, you must submit a $100 deposit by Wednesday, March 4 (make checks out to Four Oaks with "Mexico Trip-your name" in the memo line).
